4 Blog Writing Tips For Photographers

4 Blog Writing Tips For Photographers

With the launch of our new Blog Editor, we’re sure many of you are sitting down to create your very own blog posts. After you easily add images from your client gallery, you can start writing your blog posts. But what happens when you stare at the empty post and nothing comes out?

We know staring at that blinking cursor can feel intimidating. You’re a photographer after
all :) The whole reason you got into this business is because sometimes words aren’t enough to describe the emotion of the day.

Including writing in your posts is an essential part of blogging. It helps bolster the SEO of your post by including keywords, engages readers by adding details, and is a valuable tool for linking to other vendors. We’ve compiled a list of tips for writing blog posts that make writing more approachable, so you can get those fingers typing.

  1. Lean Into Descriptions

Using descriptive words for your blog posts helps you include more details and feelings, making your content more relatable. Immerse your readers into the scene by using descriptive adjectives that create a sense of atmosphere.

Instead of just mentioning the venue, here’s an example on how to write it more descriptively: “The only thing that can top a spring wedding is a spring wedding at Villa Tre Ville in Amalfi Coast, Italy. With the wisteria flowers in full bloom, having a wedding under the arches is incredibly picturesque."

Using adjectives in writing can also be beneficial for SEO purposes as they help to add more keywords and phrases into your content. This makes it easier for search engines to index your content, increasing its visibility online.

2. Take Advantage of Writing Tools

These days, there are so many writing tools that are valuable assets to expand on your descriptions and create engaging, cohesive blog posts.

AI Bots

AI writing generators can save you time and energy by creating a draft that you can then tweak to make it more personal. Type in your request and the AI bot will create a detailed and interesting piece of content. There are many AI writers available, such as ChatGPT, Jasper, Copy.ai, Rytr, and more.

Grammarly

Editing software like the Grammarly extension also helps refine your writing, offering helpful suggestions to make sure that your words are reading clearly. Seeing your writing edited can also help you to understand how to improve your writing for future blog posts.

WordTune

Wordtune is a free chrome extension that helps you rewrite your sentences. If you feel yourself getting in a bit of a rut with sentence structure, this can be an easy and quick way to spice up your writing.

And for those of you who are hesitant to give AI or editing software a try, a thesaurus search can help you vary your descriptions by switching up your word choice.

3. Consider Shorter Paragraphs

While you want to add value through your writing, using a varied mix of words, photographs, and blank spaces makes your content feel fresh and inviting.

Short paragraphs for reading comprehension allow your reader’s eyes to easily flow down the post. Line breaks and shorter paragraphs with white space and photographs in-between keep your readers engaged.

4. Get Words On The Page

Our biggest tip for writing blog posts seems straightforward, but can often be the most challenging: just start. When you first begin writing, focus on getting words on the page: you can always edit and add later! While it may feel clunky at first, once you get your fingers moving across the keyboard, we promise it will get easier.
